I am an Englishman, living and working in Finland as a full-time coach. I am a specialist in the sport of Racketlon and competed on the World Tour at Elite level. For those unfamiliar with Racketlon, it is a sport that combines 4 of the 5 racket sports that I coach.

Playing Career

​

I reached a career high Men's World Ranking of No. 16, Junior World Ranking of No.3 and have won numerous International & World titles, at both Open Age and U21 categories, including the Thailand Open Men’s singles, and World U21 XD titles (with my sister Hannah!). In addition to this, I have also competed at an English national level in tennis and badminton, at junior age groups. My sister was also an International level player and my main training / sparring partner!

Why Finland?

​

I've always been adventurous, travelled and competed widely, and was keen to study at a university abroad in order to broaden my horizons further. Finland appealed for 2 main reasons: 1. I had made friends with a number of Finnish players on the World Tour and they really sold the country to me and 2. Racketlon originated in Finland in the 1980's so I felt I was coming home!

I originally moved to Finland in 2018 to study a “Sports coaching and management” degree at  Haaga Helia University of Applied Sciences, in Vierumäki, and I was employed by them prior to establishing Boden Racket Sports in June 2020.

 

The degree program i studied was one of the most respected Sports coaching programs on offer (at university level), so it gave a lot of value for my working life and some new ideas to implement with my coaching.

Originally, I never planned to stay in Finland after i graduated but here I am 5 years later with a successful coaching business and a vast network of friends and loyal customers, returning to me time and time again. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else because I love the Finnish nature, the people, the varying seasons and, of course, my job!

Why Boden Racket Sports?

​

I've always wanted to do a job that I am passionate about and where I can help people. My personality, knowledge, playing ability, and experience of coaching at Vierumäki showed me that I could do that and led to me starting my business. 

​

The combination of studying a sports coaching and management degree, whilst also playing at the highest level, gives me a unique perspective to the coaching experience that not all coaches are able to offer.
